Blanton settles down

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff November 1, 2009 09:24 PM

Joe Blanton is making his manager look smart, having retired 11 straight since hitting Alex Rodriguez in the first inning.

But the Yankees lead 2-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning. CC Sabathia has thrown 46 pitches through the first three innings. His stamina on three days' rest will be something to keep an eye on as the game progresses.

The Yankees appear frustrated by the strike zone of umpire Mike Everitt. Of Blanton's five strikeouts, four were called and the Yankees complained about three of those.
