Former Padres general manager Kevin Towers will be here at the Winter Meetings this week seeking a job. The well-respected talent evaluator wants to work for a large-market American League team as a scout and teams are lining up to try and hire him.

Given that Theo Epstein once worked for Towers, it certainly sounds like Boston could be a match.

But according to this story in the San Diego Union-Tribune, Towers is leery about what he perceives as tension between Epstein and Larry Lucchino and may choose the Yankees.

We've been down this road before, going back to the infamous gorilla suit getaway in 2005 and their reported disagreement about moving Manny Ramirez in 2008. Is there a new rift?

As always, it may be up to John Henry to keep the peace. If there is tension in the front office, it hasn't gotten in the way of producing successful teams. Maybe it actually helps.
