UPDATE, 9:07 p.m.: Guess they were serious. Cameron has agreed to a two-year deal worth in the neighborhood of $16 million. It is contingent on a physical.

-----------

With John Lackey either wrapped up or close to it, the Red Sox are reportedly turning their attention to Mike Cameron, a center fielder who could play left field next season and is willing, at age 37, to take a two-year deal.

Cameron hit .250/.342/.452 for Milwaukee last season with a Jason Bay-like 156 strikeouts. But he also had 24 homers and 70 RBI. Cameron is a Gold Glove OF who, along with new shortstop Marco Scutaro, would provide a significant defensive upgrade.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported that the talks were "serious."
