A report in the Daily Telegraph of Australia said the Red Sox would be playing in Sydney in March. A few blogs were quick to jump on the story.

A Red Sox source said the story was not true, however. Put away your passports.

MLB has played games overseas before and wants to again. If baseball ever does stage a series in Australia, the Red Sox figure to be be one of the teams.

Vice president of international scouting Craig Shipley is Australian as is Pacific Rim scouting coordinator Jon Deeble, who doubles as manager of the Australia national team. The Sox are anxious to mine talent in that part of the world and playing there could be part of the strategy. But they will not play there in 2010.
