Here's how much the Red Sox think of having signed Brian Shouse: They didn't announce it.

The 41-year-old lefthander signed a minor-league deal with the team according to the transactions listed by MLB back on Jan. 4.

Shouse was 1-1, 4.50 with the Rays last season. He allowed 31 hits, walked seven and struck out 17 over 28 innings. He is a one-batter lefty specialist. Lefties hit .224 against him last season, righties .356.

Shouse would seem to be among the huddled masses trying to earn that last job or two in the bullpen in spring training.

Shouse played for the Pirates with Tim Wakefield for a few games back in 1993, retreated back to the minors then resurfaced with the Red Sox in 1998. He had a 5.62 ERA in seven games before being released in June.
