250francona.jpgA lot of fans are asking why Mike Lowell can't get at-bats as the DH or occasionally at first base or third base. Those are good questions.

But the Red Sox have made it clear they want to trade Lowell and don't envision him being a member of the 2010 team over the course of the entire season. Whether it's right or wrong, they have made their evaluation.

"Players or coaches or managers or GMs donít always agree on the message," manager Terry Francona said this afternoon. "But I think itís important to be honest and to always communicate and weíll certainly do that.Ē

ďI do know how I feel about it. (Lowell) has been a terrific player and a terrific teammate and a terrific person. We try to make decisions that we think are really best for the Red Sox and you try to balance everything.

"So right now, what weíll do is weíll spend a lot of energy ó and so will he ó on getting healthy and being productive and getting ready for a season. You know what? You donít know where itís going to lead. You really donít. Itís kind of a funny game. Thatís probably the best way to go about it.Ē

It will be interesting to see how long Lowell stays with the Red Sox. That is likely contingent on how much of his contract the Red Sox are willing to pick up. If that number is $9 million, it could take a while. If it's $11 million, it will probably be a quicker process.
