Dan Hayes of the North County Times has an interesting blog post today about future Red Sox star Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.

He arrived in camp today and discussed his future in San Diego, specifically what will happen when his deal is up after the 2011 season.

"At the time you take the security," Gonzalez said. "The next one is where I look for what I deserve."

That would seem to indicate that the Padres will not be receiving any sort of hometown discount should they try and extend Gonzalez.

"I’m a Padre up until that day, which I hope won’t happen," Gonzalez said. "I want to win as a Padre, the city deserves a championship."

Gonzalez said there have been no contract talks. Of course, there is no reason there would be given he has two years left on his deal.

This story will not go away until Gonzalez either gets a new deal in San Diego or is traded.
