Red Sox claim Hernandez off waivers
The Red Sox have worked the waiver wire again, this time claiming righthander Gaby Hernandez from Seattle.
Righthander Robert Manuel was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. He was claimed from Seattle in November.
Hernandez, 23, was 10-9, 5.23 for Triple-A Tacoma last season. He had 98 strikeouts and walked 48 over 146.1 innings. Hernandez won each of his final five starts and earned Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week honors for August 31-Sepember 8, going 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA over that stretch.
Hernandez started his career with the Mets as a third-round pick in 2004 before being traded to Florida.
