Dan Shaughnessy takes a look at Josh Beckett as he heads into his contract year. Will he be back? Dan thinks not.

New utility man Bill Hall checked into camp. Nick Cafardo writes that Hall will need to show he can play shortstop to have value to the Red Sox.

Dustin Pedroia says the Sox will score plenty of runs. What, did you think he would say anything else? This notebook also has updates on Victor Martinez, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Jose Iglesias and Terry Francona's take on Johnny Damon leaving the division.

The rest the position players report today. That can be with a telephone call, but it's a good bet that at least a few of them will show up at the Player Development Complex.

Meanwhile pitchers and catchers will have their third day of workouts. That means Jon Lester, Josh Beckett, John Lackey and Tim Wakefield will throw in the bullpen. It's a little dreary in the Fort this morning and there's a chance of rain.

Check back on Extra Bases all day for updates.

------------

The Yankees couldn't resist a bargain and signed Chan-Ho Park ($1.2 million) on the cheap to bolster their bullpen. Red Sox officials say they're at their budget. But wouldn't right-handed reliever Kiko Calero at least tempt them?

With camps open, there should be some bargains out there.
