Greetings from Ed Smith Stadium, home of the Orioles.

Terry Francona met with the (few) beat writers who made the trip here for the game today and had some updates:

* Jeremy Hermida took batting practice yesterday and again today and could possibly play tomorrow but more likely on Friday. So barring a setback, he'll be set for the Opening Day roster and Josh Reddick will be optioned down.

* Without coming out and saying it, Francona indicated that Junichi Tazawa needs to have elbow surgery. See you next year.

* Francona spoke glowingly about Scott Atchison. Were I a betting man and I have been known to be I'd put Atchison in one of those bullpen jobs along with Scott Schoeneweis.

* Jonathan Papelbon will pitch an inning and change in a minor-league game today. Hideki Okajima will pitch as well. That'll be back in Fort Myers.

* None of the bullpen guys will pitch on Saturday. Their final tune-ups will be tomorrow and Friday.

* Here's your TV schedule the next few days:

Thursday: ESPN
Friday: None
Saturday: MLB Network
Sunday for the Opener: NESN in New England, ESPN2 elsewhere.
