There is concern throughout the organization for top prospect Ryan Westmoreland as he prepares for surgery tomorrow. Jed Lowrie also is going through a medical issue.

It was cut-down day yesterday and two prominent prospects were among the dozen players who were demoted. The notebook also has updates on Josh Beckett, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Jason Varitek.
