Selig has little to say about West comments

MINNEAPOLIS -- He came to praise the official opening of Target Field and throw proper credit to the Pohlad family, who kept the team in the city against all odds. But Bud Selig, when asked about Joe West's comments on the length of Yankee-Red Sox games, decided not to indulge.

"If there's anything I have to say on that subject I will say it to all the parties," Selig said. "What I have said to all of you and to our committee . . . it isn't the time of the game, it's the pace of the game. That's the point. I'll give you an example, and Hank Aaron is on my mind because I'm going to Mobile ... I'm talking to him about pace of the game and I said, 'Henry, tell me something: A guy is in the batter's box: Ball one. Now he's out of the batter's box and he's adjusting things. What the hell? He didn't swing.' And Hank said to me, 'I never got out of the batter's box.' Joe Torre said the same thing. Once you were in the batter's box you didn't move. That's my only comment. It's the pace of the game that we're looking at."

When told that Angel Hernandez did not grant timeout to a couple of players during the final Yankee-Red Sox game, Selig said that they would discuss it.
