The anatomy of a slump
The Red Sox have lost four straight. Their offensive statistics in those games:
Hits: 28
At-bats: 138
Batting average: .203
Walks: 16
Strikeouts: 31
OBP: .281
Finally — and this is staggering — they are 0 for 25 with runners in scoring position over the last four games and 12 for 84 (.143) over the last 11 games.
The Rays are 9-3 (6-0 on the road) and go for the sweep tomorrow with gigantic Jeff Niemann facing John Lackey. The Sox need their newest starter to be a stopper, that's for sure.
