Pitching: Jeremy Guthrie (3-5, 3.84)

Game Time: 7:05 p.m.

State of Sox: The Red Sox clobbered the Orioles 11-0 last night, the same night the Orioles fired manager Dave Trembley and replaced him with third base coach Juan Samuel. There seemed no extra "fire" from the Birds who are in a sorry state. The Sox have tightened the race to where they're 4-1/2 games behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays, who bowed to Texas last night and just two games behind the second-place Yankees, who lost to the slugging Toronto Blue Jays, who are tied with Boston for third place.

State of Orioles: Don't ask. The Orioles have scored eight runs in their last seven games. They have lost nine straight in which they've scored 14 runs. During the skid they have only 11 extra-base hits. They have the lowest OBP (.306) in the league and are close to the lowest in every other offensive category. Miguel Tejeda has not homered in 127 at-bats, Matt Wieters has not homered in his last 76 at-bats.

Sox catchers: Lead the league in runs (38), hits (70), homers (14), RBI (39), extra base hits (32), slugging (.572, OPs (.936) and total bases (130).

Who's hot: J.D. Drew's average has risen from .181 to ,275 since April 30...Victor Martinez is 10-for-13 in his last three games...David Ortiz has 8 homers in his last 19 games...Dustin Pedroia is 6-for-18 in his last four games...Kevin Youkilis is 8-for-18 with 6 RBI in his last 4 games...

Vs. Guthrie: Beltre: 1-for-20 (.100); Cameron 0-for-3 (.000); Drew 6-22, 1 HR (.273); Lowell 4-23, 1 HR (.174); Martinez 1-for-6 (.167); Ortiz 8-for-26, 3 HR, 8 RBI (.308); Pedroia 9-for-31 (.290); Scutaro 6-for-20 (.300); Varitek 5-for-19 1 HR (.263); Youkilis 7-for-31 1 HR (.226).
