Edwin Mejia, one of the agents for Adalberto Ibarra, updated his Twitter feed today to report that the Cuban catcher has taken his physical.
Once he is approved, the Red Sox plan to have Ibarra work out in Fort Myers before assigning him to a team.
Ibarra, 23, agreed to a five-year, $3 million deal two months ago but was stuck in the Dominican Republic waiting for a visa. He is an inexperienced catcher and will need time to acclimate to that position as well as the American professional game.
So, no, he won't be catching John Lackey tomorrow night.
