jbsphoto2.jpgJosh Beckett is about to get to work here at Tropicana Field. He'll be facing five players from the GCL Red Sox and maybe Jeremy Hermida, too.

Stay tuned for reports here.

UPDATE, 2:20 p.m.: Hermida is hitting first. Josh is being watched by fellow hurlers Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester, John Lackey, Tim Wakefield and Daniel Bard.

UPDATE 2:29 p.m.: The first inning is over. Beckett threw 18 pitches to five batters. His velocity looked pretty good to me and his command got better as he got into it.

The GCL hitters (based on the GCL roster) are apparently Henry Ramos, Moko Moanaroa, Maykol Sanchez, Trygg Danforth and Luke Yoder.

Jason Varitek, on crutches, is in the crowd, too.

UPDATE, 2:40 p.m.: Beckett is through two innings and 33 pitches. Ramos doubled off him but he struck out Sanchez. Hermida didn't get up again.

UPDATE, 2:51 p.m.: Beckett is done. He threw 51 pitches. He faced 13 hitters and gave up one hit. He struck out five.

UPDATE, 2:53 p.m.: Nope, Beckett is coming back out for more looks like.

UPDATE, 3:03 p.m.: Beckett is done now. He threw 65 pitches. He seemed pleased, fist-bumping everybody around. Beckett will be able to get to 80 pitches in his next start. He may need only two more rehabs before rejoining the Sox.
