The Red Sox have placed LHP Hideki Okajima on the disabled list with a calf strain and called up LHP Felix Doubront.

Okajima has had a severe case of the stinks the season. He has a 5.85 earned run average and a 1.97 WHIP. You have to wonder whether this well-timed injury is just a good way to get him off the roster before he does any more damage.

Doubront will pitch in relief. He has been a starter all season but on Tuesday threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Pawtucket.

Doubront started three games for the Sox this season, posting a 4.11 ERA. Lefties were 3 for 19 against him, so perhaps he will be useful out of the bullpen.
