Clay Buchholz has had a terrific season on the mound, winning 16 games entering his start tonight and battling for the American League ERA crown (his 2.48 trails only the 2.35 of Seattle ace Felix Hernandez.).

Turns out he's made plenty of contributions off the field as well, something that was acknowledged today when he was named the recipient of the BoSox Club Man of the Year Award.

The award will be presented tomorrow at the BoSox Club's luncheon at the Newton Marriott.

Some of Buchholz's charitable endeavors this season, as provided in a press release by the Red Sox.

• He was named Jimmy Fund "Co-Captain," along with teammate Tim Wakefield, for the 2010 season. In that role, he made visits to the clinic, recorded public service announcements and spoke to participants at various Jimmy Fund events.

• He was the spokesman for the Jimmy Fund Rally Against Cancer program and visited the top fund-raising school, company and college. He also met with patients who were taken on group trips to Fort Myers, Fla., and Baltimore.

• In August he actively participated in the Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon that raised more than $3 million.

• During spring training, he participated in the Children’s Hospital Celebrity Golf Classic in Fort Myers.

• Vuchholz has also supported the Red Sox Foundation and its Picnic in the Park event by donating a pitching lesson and an opportunity to play a video game with him.

• Throughout the season he met with children from New England group homes during their visits to Fenway.
