ph_448179.jpgThe Red Sox have purchased the contract of Rich Hill and he will join the team in Seattle according to a team source.

Hill had a 3.74 ERA in 19 appearances for Pawtucket this season and last pitched Sept. 4. He was mainly used in relief, making 13 appearances out of the bullpen. The lefthander from Milton, Mass., has spent parts of five seasons in the majors, mostly with the Cubs.

Lefthanders hit .170 against Hill when he was in Pawtucket this season. He is 21-20 with a 4.87 ERA in 78 big league games, 70 of them starts.

This could be a sign that the Red Sox do not expect to have rookie LHP Felix Doubront pitch again this season. He has been out with pain in the front of his left shoulder and is scheduled to undergo further testing in Boston. He is not with the team.
