The Red Sox have a number of notable prospects in the Arizona Fall League playing with the Peoria Javelinas. Here's an update:

Casey Kelly: The righthander, who turned 21 earlier this month, has allowed one earned run on six hits over nine innings in two starts with two walks and six strikeouts. Not counting the work he did in Instructional League, Kelly has thrown 104 innings this season.

Jose Iglesias: The shortstop from Cuba is 7 of 22 with three RBIs in six games. The good news: He has struck out only twice. The bad news: He has walked only once.

Ryan Lavarnway: After making a great leap forward as a catcher this season, the Yale product is 4 for 16 with a homer and five RBI in five games.

Jason Rice: The 24-year-old righthander, a minor-league Rule 5 pick last winter, has allowed one run in four innings of relief and struck out three. He had a 2.85 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP at Portland this season and could be a quick mover next season.

Seth Garrison: The big RHP was a 23rd round pick in 2008 and this season was in A ball and pitched well. He has allowed one run in three innings of relief in the AFL and whiffed five.

Keep in mind that not every player plays every game. The AFL teams have large rosters and many of the players share positions. Iglesias, for instance, may play third base in some games just to get at-bats. The Sox, who see him as a shortstop, are fine with that.
