To be accountable, here is who I picked in the Globe's preseason section:

AL East: Red Sox
AL Central: Twins
AL West: Angels
AL Wildcard: Yankees
NL East: Phillies
NL Central: Cardinals
NL West: Rockies
NL Wildcard: Braves

So I managed to pick four of the possible eight playoff teams.

The Globe standings:
Amalie Benjamin 5
Peter Abraham 4
Dan Shaughnessy: 4
Tony Massarotti: 4
Nick Cafardo 3
Bob Ryan: 3
Chris Gasper: 2

I had the Twins over the Phillies in the Series and I'm sticking to it. The only others with a World Series pick alive are Dan, Bob, and Chris. They all took the Phillies.

The only one of us who had the Red Sox out of the playoffs was Dan. He correctly had them coming in third.

As for the playoff series this week:

Rays over the Rangers (4 games): Texas is an undisciplined team on the bases and Josh Hamilton's injury could be a deciding factor. Tampa's pitching is tested, rested, and ready.

Phillies over Reds (3 games): The Phillies put it all together at the right time. This is a powerhouse team with lots of postseason experience that has everything lined up.

Twins over Yankees (5 games): The Yankees have serious pitching questions, in the rotation and in the bullpen. They have leaned hard on CC Sabathia the last two seasons (504 innings) and that bill could come due.

Giants over Braves (4 games): Bobby Cox did well to drive his mangled bunch into the playoffs. But the Giants have too much pitching and Buster Posey.
