Red Sox bench coach DeMarlo Hale, who finished a close second to John Farrell for the Toronto manager's job, will interview with the New York Mets for their vacant position according to a report by Maureen Mullen of CSNNE.com

The interview could very well come as a result of the recent hiring of J.P. Ricciardi by the Mets as GM Sandy Alderson's top assistant. Ricciardi has always been a fan of Hale. Ricciardi is also a fan of Brian Butterfield, who was rehired as John Farrell's third base coach in Toronto. There is no word yet on whether Butterfield will get an interview in New York.

The Mets have a short list they're going through one by one. Mets scout Bob Melvin, Brooklyn Cyclones manager Wally Backman, minor league field coordinator Terry Collins, bench coach Dave Jauss, third base coach Chip Hale and Ken Oberkfell, currently managing in the Dominican Winter League, are all candidates to some degree.
