J.P. Ricciardi will probably know by later this week whether he'll join the Mets or the Red Sox front office. Both organizations want him, as we reported in Sunday Baseball Notes.

Ricciardi said via text, "I am working on a couple of things and will know more later this week." Ricciardi has been working as an ESPN analyst. Ricciardi has worked for new Mets GM Sandy Alderson in Oakland. Ricciardi lives in the Worcester area so Boston would be ideal as well. Sox GM Theo Epstein has not responded to inquiries about Ricciardi. ComcastSportsNet New England's Maureen Mullen reported Ricciardi has been made an offer.

The Red Sox, as expected, have told Bill Hall they will reject the $9.25 million option but want him back. Hall is expected to see what's available for a starting job, but could return to Boston.

The Sox will soon make a decision on David Ortiz's option. The Ortiz side wants a multi-year deal, but early talks haven't yielded much progress. There have been reports of possible face-to-face talks this week before the Thursday, midnight deadline.
