So much for run prevention
The Red Sox did not catch the ball very well according to The Fielding Bible Awards released yesterday.
These awards are far more accurate (and accountable) than the Gold Gloves in that statistics are employed along with the opinions of a large panel of experts. The Gold Gloves are selected by managers and coaches and obviously in some cases may have seen a player only six times all season.
Adrian Beltre was predictably the highest-rated Red Sox player, finishing third among third basemen. Kevin Youkilis (6th) and Dustin Pedroia (7th) also fared well. J.D. Drew (11th) was the next highest Boston player.
