The Red Sox have been in Houston meeting with free agent outfielder Carl Crawford and his representatives.

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports had that on Twitter today and obviously it makes sense. The Red Sox have a significant amount of money to spend and Crawford is the top position player available.

Also, Dustin Pedroia was just on WEEI and said he was in Boston to get his broken left foot checked out. Dr. George Theodore cleared Pedroia to start jogging and by Jan. 1 he will be able to sprint.

Dusty Brown, who played seven games for the Sox last season, signed a minor league deal with the Pirates. Good luck to him.

UPDATE, 8:25 p.m.: In working on this story for tomorrow's paper, it now appears the Red Sox have scheduled a meeting with Scott Boras before the Winter Meetings. Boras represents Adrian Beltre and Jayson Werth, among others.

If the Sox can retain Beltre and sign Crawford, their lineup would look something like this:

Ellsbury CF
Pedroia 2B
Crawford LF
Youkilis 1B
Ortiz DH
Beltre 3B
Drew RF
Scutaro SS
Saltalamacchia C

The bench would be Cameron, Lowrie, catcher TBA, infielder TBA.
