A major league source has confirmed Bobby Jenks' 2-year, $12 million deal with Boston is done pending a physical. Jenks is due into Boston Saturday morning to get checked out.

Jenks, the former White Sox closer, was non-tendered earlier this month.

Jenks has declined the last three seasons, but the feeling is if the Red Sox can get him in shape and take the pressure off him in a setup role, then Jenks, who still has very good stuff, could be an asset and certainly a candidate to move into the closer role along with Daniel Bard after Jonathan Papelbon's tenure ends after this season.

The Sox may also be in a better position to deal Papelbon if they get an offer for him.

The two years at $12 million deal makes sense considering the Red Sox did not want to be one of the teams handing out three-year deals for relievers. Many of their targets Scott Downs, Matt Guerrier, Jesse Crain - had been getting signed as of late. The Sox still need a lefty and remain on Brian Fuentes.
