ESPNDeportes.com reported earlier today that Adrian Beltre is close to a five-year deal with Texas. Other reports indicate that is not the case, only that the sides are talking.

Presumably, Texas would either trade Michael Young or shift him to first base or DH upon obtaining Beltre.

Red Sox fans should root for the Rangers to sign Beltre as the Sox would get the No. 26 pick in the draft as compensation for Beltre plus a supplemental first rounder. If Beltre were to sign with the Angels or Athletics, their first-round picks are protected, so the return would be only a supplemental first rounder and a second rounder.
