The Red Sox are one of five teams interested in lefty reliever Joe Beimel and a decision on where he'll wind up could be made in the next 48 hours according to his agent, Joe Sroba.
Beimel, 33, appeared in 71 games for the Rockies last season, the third time he had appeared in that many games. He also made 83 appearances for the Dodgers in 2007 so he has been a workhorse. Lefty batters hit .221 against him last season.
The Red Sox will currently be looking at lefties Felix Doubront, Andrew Miller, Hideki Okajima, Rich Hill and possibly Lenny DiNardo for the lefty role out of the bullpen. Okajima was resigned but had a poor 2010 season. The Sox would prefer Doubront to start in Triple-A as they would with Miller.
The Sox have AL East competition for Beimel in the Baltimore Orioles who are looking for a second lefty with Mike Gonzalez.
