Beckett OK after being struck by a ball

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Josh Beckett was hit on the left side of his head by a ball during batting practice a few minutes ago. He walked off the field escorted by a trainer while rubbing his head. He had been standing in shallow left field.

More to come as the information becomes available.

Joe McDonald of ESPN reports that Beckett was hit when BP pitcher Ino Guerrero attempted to hit a shagged ball back to the bucket behind second base.

UPDATE, 11:14 a.m.: Beckett is OK according to media relations director Pam Ganley. He was hit in the head.

Rough spring for Beckett, who was hit in the face by a rag ball off the bat of Terry Francona during a drill about 10 days ago.

UPDATE, 1:15 p.m.: Beckett is in the dugout watching the Twins-Sox game. He seems to be fine. No bandages can be seen.

UPDATE, 2:05 p.m.: The Red Sox announced that Beckett has "mild concussion symptoms" and was sent home to rest after being examined. He will be evaluated tomorrow.
