FORT MYERS, Fla. — Today is the final day of informal workouts. Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow and spring training will officially start.

It's chilly in the Fort today (52 this morning), but Daisuke Matsuzaka was on the field at 8:36 a.m. playing catch.

I watched Field of Dreams last night while cooling out in the Globe condo. When Ray Kinsella takes Terence Mann to Fenway Park, two hot dogs and two beers costs him $7. That movie was made in 1988. What would they cost today? At least $25, right?

Meanwhile, here's an update on lefty Itsuki Shoda, the free agent signed to a minor-league deal by the Sox. I spoke to a Japanese reporter and his evaluation was that Shoda "is not very good."

The Red Sox paid next to nothing to have Shoda come to minor-league camp for what amounts to a tryout. But, hey, you never know. Casting a wide net for pitchers is always a good idea.

Check back later for more coverage.
