Final: Marlins 11, Red Sox 2

Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched three innings and gave up seven runs (five earned) on six hits, including a two-run home run by Dewayne Wise in the second inning, in an 11-2 loss to the Florida Marlins Saturday in a split squad game before 7,195 at City of Palms Park.

Anibal Sanchez, a former Sox farmhand, picked up the win for the Marlins after allowing just one hit and one walk while ringing up three strikeouts in three scoreless innings.

Matsuzaka departed after three innings and handed a 7-0 deficit to reliever Tim Wakefield, who gave up two runs on five hits in his 2.2 innings of work.

The Sox didn't get on the board until the sixth when Darnell McDonald doubled home Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who had reached on a double to left-center, making it 9-1. After Yamaico Navarro hit his first homer of the spring in the seventh to cut the Sox' deficit to seven runs, the Marlins pushed across two more runs in the top of the eighth against Daniel Bard (2 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks in 0.2 innings) to seal the verdict.

Top of 8th: Marlins 11, Red Sox 2

Daniel Bard, in the game for Jonathan Papelbon (1 inning, 1 strikeout), loades the bases by issuing back-to-back walks to Brad Davis and Emilio Bonifacio. Chris Lubanski singles to load 'em up, then John Raynor, after nearly getting his head taken off by Bard, hits an RBI single to left, making it 10-2. Tim Torres grounds out to first allowing Bonficacio to score, making it 11-2.

End of 7th: Marlins 9, Red Sox 2

Yamaico Navarro hits his first HR of the spring to left center on a 1-1 pitch from righty reliever Adalberto Mendez. Sox now trail by seven runs.

Bottom of 6th: Marlins 9, Red Sox 1

After Saltalamacchia reaches on a double to center, Darnell McDonald puts the Sox on the board when he drives in Salty with an RBI double down the line to left.

Top of 6th: Marlins 9, Red Sox 0

RBI singles by Emilio Bonifacio and Gaby Sanchez off Tim Wakefield expands the Marlins' lead to 9 runs.

End of 4th: Marlins 7, Red Sox 0

The Sox load the bases against Shawn Hill, who entered the game in relief of starter
Anibal Sanchez (3 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 43 pitches) after Ortiz walked and Mike Cameron reached with a two-out single to left and Darnell McDonald legged out an infield hit for a single. For the third time this spring, Daniel Nava came to the plate with the bases loaded and wound up stranding everyone when he grounded to second.

Top of 3d: Marlins 7, Red Sox 0

Matt Dominguez hits a 2-run double to left off Dice-K with two out in the third. He gets caught in a 7-6-3 run down between second and third and is tagged out by Lars Anderson diving back to the bag at second. End of a rough day for Dice-K: 3 innings, 7 runs, 6 hits, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 1 home run, 55 pitches (33 for strikes). Wakefield will come in to pitch the fourth.

Top of the 2nd: Marlins 5, Red Sox 0

Matsuzaka, who told Japanese reporters he'd been suffering from a virus in his right eye, gave up a towering 2-run homer to right to Dewayne Wise. Dice-K's neck might be hurting, too, after that giving up that bomb.

End of the 1st: Marlins 3, Red Sox 0

Sox blow opportunity to tie it after Marco Scutaro (walk) and Dustin Pedroia (single to right) reached base. But both wound up getting stranded after Anibal Sanchez struck out David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis and induced Jarrod Saltalamacchia to ground to second.

Top of the 1st: Marlins 3, Red Sox 0

Daisuke Matsuzaka got roughed up for three runs (on unearned) on three hits, including a 2-RBI double to right by Gaby Sanchez. After striking out Scott Cousin, Dice-K gave up an RBI single (that scored Sanchez), enabling the Marlins to take a 3-0 lead.
