Jacoby Ellsbury on his strong spring: 的 got a lot of work in. My main thing was to just to be ready day one of spring training. 的 knew a while ago coming into spring training I was ready to go. It痴 not a surprise to me."

Francona on Ellsbury's home run: "That was a pretty swing, that ball jumped out in a hurry. It痴 safe to say he feels good about himself at the plate."

John Lackey on his outing: 的 feel good about location right now. Today I kind of pitched like I would during the season. I incorporated a lot more pitches today as opposed to the first two times [when] I was pretty fastball heavy. Today it was more like a regular-season start and I was able to throw some off-speed pitches behind in the count and do some things I need to do during the season."

Francona on Lackey: "Gave up some hits. Never felt like he was out of control of the game. Gave up some base hits but only gave up the one run. Always seemed like he was in command of what he was doing."

Terry Francona on Adrian Gonzalez: "You'd think that after long a wait and coming off an injury, he'd be a little jumpy. He was probably anything but that. Nice little liner to left and then had a nice at-bat when he had the sac fly. So it's a good start. He wanted to stay in and that's also good. But we have time to not rush things."

Gonzalez will next play on Monday against the Yankees.

Notes: Carl Crawford did not play yesterday and will not play today. 敵oing to give him two days to work out, Francona said. 滴e痴 OK. Normal kind of spring training soreness. Mike Cameron, who missed a week with a sore left knee, beat out a bunt single. David Ortiz had two doubles and is 9 for 27 (.333) this spring. 哲ice and quiet, he said. 笛ust getting ready. But I feel good about my swing.

Notable players headed to Bradenton for tomorrow's game against the Pirates: Scott Atchison, Daniel Bard, Josh Beckett, Mike Cameron, J.D. Drew, Jose Iglesias, Ryan Kalish, Darnell McDonald, Andrew Miller, Daniel Nava and Jason Varitek.
