Yankees send Turpen back to Red Sox
FORT MYERS, Fla. — According to the Yankees transaction list, they have returned Rule 5 draft pick Daniel Turpen to the Red Sox.
Turpen appeared in five games for the Yankees this spring. His line: 3.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 4 K.
The Yankees had to either keep Turpen on their 25-man roster or offer him back to the Red Sox. The Red Sox make $25,000 in the deal, half of what the Yankees paid to select him.
Turpen, 24, was acquired from the Giants in July for Ramon Ramirez. He pitched for Double A Portland, posting a 4.91 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 12 games.
