Rays manager Joe Maddon is a wine connoisseur. He must have had a bottle or three today.

Here's what he told reporters in St. Petersburg this afternoon when asked to compare the defense played by Sam Fuld to Carl Crawford:

"There's no drop-off. ... Sam's playing that level of defense right now. He throws the ball better. All the different things he's doing defensively, I can't tell you that Carl's better. I can not."

Presumably Maddon is talking about how the two are playing right now and isn't suggesting Fuld is just as good overall. Fuld has started 15 games in left field in his MLB career. It might be a tad quick to say he's as good as Crawford.
