ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas was 34 of 102 this weekend with 26 runs scored and 21 extra-base hits, 11 of them home runs. They also drew 10 walks. That's a .333/.409/.775 line.

"It's part of baseball, games like this. But I never expected anything like that," new pitching coach Curt Young said.

Nobody did, not even the Rangers.

That the season is 1.9 percent complete will not matter to the bridge jumpers, attention seekers and merchants of panic. The pitching stinks, the hitting stinks, the catching stinks, everybody stinks. Dewey has defeated Truman. It's time to jump ship.

But just for kicks, here is some perspective:

Terry Francona: "We’re not very happy with the series, that’s an understatement. I think there’s a difference between being aggravated with a series as opposed to sitting around and panicking."

Adrian Gonzalez: “We’ve still got 159 [games remaining]. I know I’m fully confident that come September we’ll be either in first place or right in the middle of everything.”

Clay Buchholz: "I think everybody’s a little bit shocked. But we have a lot of games left, a lot room to improve. I wouldn’t read too deep into it.”

Dustin Pedroia: “We’re all frustrated. We got outplayed. It’s not for lack of talent on our team. We just got outpitched [and] outhit. They played better defense than us. They kicked out ass, that’s it. We better show up and play better whatever day we play again.”

That would be Tuesday in Cleveland. Josh Beckett against Josh Tomlin. They have to win eventually, right?
