Kevin Youkilis has had 98 plate appearances this season. Somehow 49 percent of them have ended in either a strikeout (26), walk (20) or being hit by a pitch (2).

Youkilis is third in the American League in walks and eighth in strikeouts, the only player ranked in the top 10 in each category. As a result, he is 77th (out of 96 qualified players) in batting average at .213, but tied for 11th with an on-base percentage of .388.

Youkilis is 5 for 25 with runners in scoring position. He came into this season 245 of 736 (.333) with RISP.

So Youk is one of the worst hitters in the AL while at the same time being one of the most adept at getting on base.
