DETROIT — Carl Crawford is hitting sixth for the Red Sox today, the third straight game he will do so. Ostensibly, that he because J.D. Drew is out of the lineup with a sore right hamstring. But it sounds like Crawford will be staying there.
"Yeah," said Terry Francona when asked whether Crawford could be there long term. "I think I kind of like the idea of moving him up in the order, First of all, it's justified. He's hot as can be. I didn't want him to hit eighth the whole year, that's pretty obvious. I don't want to move [Dustin Pedroia] out of the two-hole, so I can see it being that way for a while, yeah.
"I like the idea of him hitting up a little bit higher."
Oddly enough, until Wednesday Crawford had never started a game hitting sixth before.
