CLEVELAND — Dustin Pedroia said he suffered a stinger down his left leg causing him to leave the eighth inning for pinch-runner Drew Sutton after he cut second base awkwardly on Adrian Gonzalez' single to right and slipped.

Pedroia said he was fine, but he will take a scheduled off tomorrow.

Pedroia appeared to catch the side of the bag and stumbled and just lay there for a few moments in pain, grabbing his left leg. Pedroia got up on his own and tried to walk it off, but he did come out of the game.

"Similar to what I did in Anaheim," Pedroia said. "When I do something like that my leg is like a stinger like you get in football. My leg took a while to get feeling back. I was off the field already. In Anaheim the feeling came back in like a minute. Can't hold up the game that long. I slipped on the base."

He added, "I was just trying to get the feeling back. That's the part that's weird. It was just numb. I just hit a nerve that shoots that stinger feeling up your leg."

“We were all holding our breath a little bit when it happened,” Terry Francona said.

Indians team doctor Mark Schickendantz examined Pedroia and found no serious injury.
