DETROIT — A few notes from our pre-game session with Terry Francona:

• Marco Scutaro will be examined by team doctor Tom Gill tomorrow to determine if he can take batting practice on the field.

• Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is in Japan, communicated with head athletic trainer Mike Reinold and said he was feeling better and has improved range-of-motion. Matsuzaka is scheduled to be checked out by Dr. Lewis Yocum this week.

The Red Sox believe his injury can be remedied by rest and rehab.

• Bobby Jenks will throw an inning for Pawtucket today, no more than 25 pitches. That should conclude his rehab assignment.

• With three games in a span of 48 hours, Francona will use guys like Drew Sutton and Josh Reddick for at least one game.

•It's nice right now in Detroit but more storms are said to be rolling in.

• As of right now, the second game will not be televised as ESPN has so far refused to grant a waiver. It is likely the Red Sox are trying to get that reversed. We'll let you know if it changes.
