You can't tell the players without a blog post ...

Purchased from AAA Pawtucket
INF-OF Drew Sutton

Activated off 15-day disabled list
RHP Dan Wheeler

Obtained from Rockies for future considerations
LHP Franklin Morales

Optioned to AAA Pawtucket
RHP Michael Bowden
SS Jose Iglesias

Designated for assignment
LHP Hideki Okajima
OF Daniel Nava

Signed to a minor league contract
RHP Kevin Millwood

With Morales and Sutton added to the 40-man roster, two spots were needed. That's why Okajima and Nava are off. The Red Sox now have 10 days to trade, release or pass them through waivers.

The reason Sutton is here is that Marco Scutaro is not close to coming off the DL. Rather than have Iglesias ride the bench in the majors, the decision was made to bring up Sutton. Now Iglesias can get regular time in Pawtucket.

In other news:

John Lackey had a cortisone shot in his elbow on Monday and played catch today for the first time.

Alfredo Aceves, who starts tomorrow, isn't sure how long he will be able to pitch after working in the bullpen. Terry Francona guessed 75-80 pitches. "I want to go six innings," Aceves said. "I'll go as long as I can."

The 1918 throwback uniforms the Sox are wearing tomorrow? "Not good," Francona said. He tried the hat on and said he looked like Max Patkin, the Clown Prince of Baseball.

I saw the hat. It's just a plain white hat. That's it. The Sox are going to look like ice cream truck drivers.
