According to the Providence Journal, LHP Tommy Hottovy has been called up to replace Rich Hill.

No word yet on the corresponding 40-man roster move. Either Hill or Daisuke Matsuzaka could be placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Hottovy, 29, was a middling prospect for much of his career. Drafted in 2004, he spent three years as a starter before missing nearly all of 2008 because of injuries. He became a reliever in 2009 and switched to a sidearm delivery last season.

In 14 appearances for Portland and Pawtucket this season, Hottoby has allowed 16 hits and 5 walks over 27 innings while striking out 28. Lefties are 0 for 12 against him since he was promoted to Pawtucket.

UPDATE, 3:15 p.m.: Matsuzaka is on the 60-day DL.
