When Rich Hill left the mound clutching his left arm in the seventh inning this afternoon, it looked like he had suffered a serious injury.

He has been taken for an MRI and more should be known tonight. But the initial examination conducted at Fenway Park was positive, according to manager Terry Francona. It is not believed Hill has a UCL tear, the kind of injury that requires Tommy John surgery.

Hill told catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia that he felt a pop and a "burning sensation" in his arm.

Said Tim Wakefield: "It's very alarming. You never want to see an injury like that happen. I think he's going to be OK. He feels better now. He has some ice on it. ... Hopefully everything checks out good."

Hill, a Milton native, has not allowed a run in 15 appearances with the Red Sox dating to last season, a team record for the start of a career.
