PHOENIX — Jon Lester said his strained lat is feeling better and he hopes to start playing catch on Thursday.

Lester has started lifting weights again and said he has not felt the injury the last two days.

"I'm hopeful I'm only going to miss a couple of starts," he said. "The way I feel now, I'd say that's possible."

In terms of other stuff:

• The Sox will start Andrew Miller, John Lackey and Josh Beckett after the break.

• Adrian Gonzalez said he planned to pull everything in the Derby tonight and was looking forward to seeing how he does. "It'll be fun," he said. "I usually don't try to hit home runs."

Gonzo joked that Dustin Pedroia wasn't selected because of the height requirement.

• Beckett said he is available to pitch tomorrow and that his left knee is fine.

More to come from these guys later on.
