TV/Radio: NESN / WEEI

Notes: As Clay Buchholz starts down the comeback trail, these starts become rotation auditions for Miller. The Sox are 5-1 in the games he has started, but that is thanks largely to good run support and bullpen work. He has a 6.75 ERA and a 2.10 WHIP in his last three starts, lasting only 13.1 innings. ... Miller is 0-2, 10.61 in four career games against the Royals but has not faced them since 2008. ... Duffy, 22, is a former third-round pick (2007) who will be making his 12th start in the majors. He is facing the Sox for the first time. ... Ellsbury has hit in seven straight at 13 of 31 (.419) with three homers and seven RBIs. ... Ellsbury has not stolen a base since July 6 (or attempted one, either). ... Reddick is hitting .364/.414/.659 in 28 games since being called up. ... Jonathan Papelbon has not allowed a run in his last five outings. ... Unsung hero Matt Albers has not allowed a run in his last 11.1 innings. ... Daniel Bard is riding a streak of 24 outings and 25 innings without allowing an earned run.

Stat of the Day: Pedroia's 22-game hit streak is the longest for a Red Sox second baseman since Del Pratt hit in 23 straight during the 1922 season. Pratt played only two seasons for the Red Sox (1921-22) and hit .312.

Song of the Day: "Up The Junction" by Squeeze.
