CHICAGO Terry Francona just met with the media. Here are the highlights:

Clay Buchholz, who is not with the team this weekend, will be examined by back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles Monday. Globe colleague Nick Cafardo broke that news earlier today.

Francona said the team is hoping that Watkins will be able to reassure Buchholz that his injury is not structural. But given the way this has been proceeding, that seems unlikely. Watkins, one of the nation's best doctors at treating herniated discs, was Randy Johnson's surgeon.

Jed Lowrie will start a rehab assignment with Triple A Pawtucket Monday. Right now, he is scheduled to play at least four games there.

Bobby Jenks had a cortisone shot in his back yesterday and is feeling much better. He did not accompany the team here. The Chicago media must be disappointed.
