Notes: Lackey is 5-0 with a 3.58 ERA in his last six starts. He has allowed 46 hits over 37.2 innings but walked just five and has 31 strikeouts. Lackey is 14-10, 3.53 in 29 career starts against Seattle, 8-5, 2.78 in 12 starts in Seattle and this year has allowed only three earned runs in 13 innings against the Mariners. ... Beaven, 22, is making his seventh start in the majors. He faced the Sox on Juy 23 and allowed three runs over 6.2 innings. ... The Sox are 4-2 against Seattle and 14-5 against the AL West this season. ... Ortiz is heating up again. He is 12 of his last 29 with five extra-base hits (three of them home runs) with nine RBIs.

Stat of the Day: Lackey and Suzuki have faced each other 104 times over the years. That's most Lackey has faced any hitter and the most Suzuki has faced any pitcher. Ichiro is 30 of 98 (.306) with 5 walks and 16 strikeouts. Ichiro is 3 for 6 against Lackey this season. Given that Ichiro is a .327 career hitter, Lackey has done pretty well against him.

Song of the Day: "Purple Haze" by Jimi Hendrix.
