Today is the final day for teams to obtain players who would be eligible to appear in the postseason.

A player need only be in the organization not on the 25-man or 40-man rosters to be eligible. Any player within the organization can be added to the roster for the playoffs by replacing somebody on the disabled list.

The Red Sox yesterday signed Trever Miller and assigned him to Pawtucket. The 38-year-old lefty was released by the Blue Jays on Aug. 21.

Miller is a true lefty specialist. He has appeared in 45 games this season for the Cardinals and Jays and thrown 19.1 innings. Lefties are 16 for 52 (.308) against him, however, with six extra-base hits, eight walks, and only eight strikeouts.

Miller has been effective in the past and does have 11 games of playoff experience. But in-house lefties Franklin Morales, Andrew Miller, and Felix Doubront are presumably much higher on Theo Epstein's reliability scale.
