KANSAS CITY - Don't expect Jacoby Ellsbury to play today, tomorrow and maybe even the next day.

Ellsbury is still sore from being hit with a pitch here Friday night and the Red Sox will give him all the time he needs.

David Ortiz will be in his boot through tomorrow to protect his right heel bursitis. He's still taking his swings, however. Ortiz said he would take 40-50 swings today. He even jogged across the clubhouse to demonstrate how good he's feeling.

Scott Pioli, now the vice president here in Kansas City with the Chiefs, visited Terry Francona and Tim Wakefield before the game.

Francona said he discussed moving Carl Crawford up in the order with bench coach Demarlo Hale, but decided to keep things the same.

Kevin Youkilis will remain in Boston for his back therapy instead of joining the team in Texas. He's still sore from the injection he had a few days ago.
