Red Sox set rotation for Rays series
SEATTLE — The Sox will pitch Jon Lester and Erik Bedard in the doublehleader against the Rays on Tuesday (order to be determined) and then go with John Lackey in the game on Wednesday.
Andrew Miller was bumped out of that series and according to Terry Francona could pitch one of the games against the Royals, although that is not certain. Miller has not started a game since July 31.
In other news:
• Bobby Jenks has reported to Fort Myers and is scheduled for a bullpen session on Tuesday. He'll throw at least three bullpens then a simulated game before they send him on a rehab assignment. He's clearly on the "see you in September" plan.
• J.D. Drew will take batting practice on the field today and tomorrow. Then they'll figure out what comes next. "Probably more hitting," Francona said.
• I asked Adrian Gonzalez about his home run drought. He has one in the last 28 games.
"I just look at my slugging percentage," he said. "What's my slugging percentage?"
Well, it's .551. Which is better than his career percentage.
"It doesn't make a difference to me how many home runs I hit. If they come, they come," he said.
