It sounds like Derek Jeter (right knee) will be able to play against the Red Sox after missing the final two games of the series in Baltimore. But Alex Rodriguez (sprained left thumb) may be out.

Rodriguez was sent back to New York today to have his thumb examined by a specialist and was labeled "questionable" by manager Joe Girardi for the first game of the series. There seems to be a good chance he may not play at all in the series.

Rodriguez was out from July 8 to Aug. 20 because of knee surgery. He has played four games since, going 3 for 17 with one RBI.

• The fifth annual Beckett Bowl was tonight at Lucky Strike across from Fenway. Josh Beckett raised a lot of money for his foundation and Children's Hospital Boston.

Those on the lanes included Jason Varitek, Tim Wakefield. Jon Lester, John Lackey, Andrew Miller, Daniel Bard, Dan Wheeler, Rich Hill, Dustin Pedroia, Mike Aviles, Clay Buchholz, Adrian Gonzalez, Jed Lowrie, Jacoby Ellsbury and team president Larry Lucchino. Heidi Watney was on hand, too.

Saw some readers from the blog, too. It was fun night for a good cause.

• Adrian and Betsy Gonzalez also spent time today doing some back-to-school shopping with 210 Red Sox Scholars at Target at the South Bay Shopping Mall in Dorchester.

Adrian and Betsy provided $100 gift cards to each scholar.
